Desi Diaspora & Mothers’ Shakti Journey
“Many South Asian mothers in Canada, shaped by a home-bound, skill-deficient, male-dominated, and fearful cultural mindset, pass these limitations to their children, creating a troubling intergenerational gap in adapting to Canadian society. ALI Association Canada’s project in Kitchener-Waterloo, the “South Asian Mothers’ Shakti & Desi Diaspora” project, bridges this gap, focusing on safety, well-being, and dignity by empowering mothers through pre/postnatal, financial, and violence-blocking training and support, keeping their cultural values as a priority. Together, we’re building a happier and safer Canada. ALI Association Canada’s connecting South Asian mothers and youth in Kitchener-Waterloo through cultural preservation.”
